Nursing: RN

Individuals who have successfully completed the licensed practical nursing program of an approved school of nursing and additional pre-requisite courses may apply to the associate degree nursing program. The A.D.N program is a two semester (fall, spring) program which includes classroom, simulated lab, and clinical experiences. At the successful completion of the program, the student is awarded an Associate in Applied Science degree and is eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Successful completion of the NCLEX allows the graduate to apply for registered professional nurse licensure. Successful completion of an A.D.N program does not guarantee licensure as a registered nurse. Background checks are conducted prior to the nursing program and prior to licensure. There are times when the Department of Professional Regulation may refuse to issue a license. Please see the General Assembly’s Illinois Administrative Code for further details (Section 1300.100) at

http://www.ilga.gov/commission/jcar/admincode/068/06801300sections.html.

In addition to an application to Rend Lake College (available at rlc.edu), there is a separate application packet that must be received in the Allied Health office by March 1 for the fall start. The application packet consists of nursing application, a copy of the entrance exam score, and transcripts verifying successful completion or enrollment in pre-requisite courses. Applicants are selected based on entrance exam score and successful completion of pre-requisite courses. State regulations require that qualified in-district students be accepted prior to consideration of out-of-district applicants. In the event that too few qualified in-district applicants are available on any given year, out-of-district students would then be considered in order of their entrance test scores.

Group nursing advisement is available the first Monday of each month at 10 a.m. in Science Room 120.
