Biofuels Technology -
RLC is developing an internet-hybrid biofuels course as a 3-hour transferable elective in the agriculture programs. The laboratories will be held on four Saturdays each semester. The Saturday laboratories will also be offered alone as a community education course. Students interested in learning about the production of biofuels, but not interested in taking a credit course, may sign up for only the laboratory section. Funded by a grant from the USDA, the course is designed to provide students with a foundation of knowledge and basic skills in the use and production of ethanol, biodiesel and methane. The grant will also provide funding for student internships on the RLC campus farm. They will use the biofuel laboratory to study the production and use of ethanol, biodiesel and methane on a farm in Southern Illinois using equipment and feedstock provided by the RLC farm.
